Emojis are used as a way to express emotion through texting. Well, guess what? There is a not-so-surprising connection between a person’s love life and their use of emojis. According to an annual dating survey by Match.com, singles who use emojis while texting have more sex and more active love lives than those who have emoji-less conversations.
But why? Are people who use emojis naturally more flirtatious, or do they have more vibrant personalities and express themselves readily? Several quizzes will tell you about your personality based on your most commonly used emojis.Match.com is on to something, their survey results revealed that 54% of emoji users had sex during the year 2014, and only 31% of non-users did. Not only do emoji lovers have sex often, but the more emojis they use, the more sex they have!
This graph shows a direct, positive connection between the frequency of emoji use, and how often people have sex:
Emoji users not only have more sex, they go on more dates and “put themselves out there” in the world of dating. The study done by Fisher found that 62% of emoji users wanted to get married compared the the 30% of non-users.
Obviously, putting the emotion back into conversations makes people more inclined to start relationships based on communication. For a woman, in particular, using the “kissy face” emoji could help her achieve an orgasm much easier because she is more “familiar” and “comfortable” with her partner than those who did not use the emoji.
With social media becoming a common dating platform, the relationship between communicating intimately over text and an having an active sex life is stronger than ever. Emoji use is not only crucial in clinching a hook up but also for spicing up already existing relationships. There are all sorts of ways to get creative and flirtatious with your S.O. by using different emoji combinations.Because emojis can be so diverse in meaning, you can make almost anything sexual. The eggplant emoji has become the universal symbol for penis and the combinations of hand gestures and water droplets can surely be dirty. According to New York Magazine,
“This elasticity of meaning is a large part of the appeal and, perhaps, the genius of emoji.”
Since emojis can mean virtually anything, there is no limit to the kinds of fun we can have with texting conversations. In a study done in the 1950s by psychologist Albert Mehrabrian, he determined that
“Only seven percent of communication is verbal (what we say), while 38 percent is vocal (how we say it) and 55 percent is nonverbal (what we do and how we look while we’re saying it).”
Meaning, when we text, 93% of these details of communication are ignored. Before emojis, putting emotion into texting your crush took ten times more effort than adding these cute little images into your conversation. Emojis are just plain adorable, and what does that say about the people who use them? Their personalities are probably pretty cute too!
