One of the easiest methods to recognize who lifts and who not is to look at their traps. While it may be a bit difficult to see whether a person has big traps or not, it’s definitely one of the most important symbols in determining just how good of a bodybuilder a particular person is.

If you want to have such big-ass traps that everyone would realize how hard you work out, then follow the tips below.

Start Using These Tips to Grow Big Traps

1. Do Plenty of Different Trap Exercises

First of all, you should know that by doing only one or two different exercises for your traps won’t help. Your traps might grow bigger if you spend enough with doing a few different exercises, but there will be nothing else good about it.

So, if you want to not only gain size but also strength and flexibility of this muscle, then make sure to do a huge variety of traps exercises. Some of the exercises you can add to your workout are:

  • Barbell shrugs
  • Incline dumbbells shrugs
  • High pulls
  • Low-cable face pulls
  • Barbells rows
  • Barbell shrugs behind the back

2. Add Changes to Your Routine

Another important point is to make small changes in your routine. These changes might be small, but they are important in making sure your muscles avoid getting used to doing the same every time you enter the gym.

So, you can add some variety to your routine by changing the amount of weight you lift, reps, sets, the amount time you rest, and so on. Be creative and find your own way in making your training different but still challenging.

Making such tiny changes might not affect your muscle size much, but it’ll definitely help you to get stronger.

3. Avoid Having Weak Spots

Even if you train your traps properly, some problems might arise because your other muscles are too weak. For instance, you may not train your traps as intensively as you can because your forearms, shoulders, or any other part of the body surrenders faster than your traps.

If you think that you have such problems, then you should give more attention to your weak spots by doing more different exercises, reps, and sets for a particular body part.

It may take from two weeks from two months and even more to strengthen your weak spots. So, keep doing your best until you see that there is nothing that stops you from training your traps even more intensively than before.

4. Lift Heavy Weights For Strength Gains

Doing many reps while using light weights definitely works when you need to build muscle mass, lose weight, or just keep yourself in shape. However, you shouldn’t spend most of your time with light weights when you want to make your traps stronger.

Many bodybuilders decide to strengthen their muscles after they have already grown enough muscle mass because in most cases, this is the fastest way to get big and strong.

So, if you want to make your traps not only big but also strong, then you should do it after you’ve grown enough. And, of course, one of the most effective ways to do so is to use heavy weights while performing fewer reps while resting for about one minute.
