Flex Wheeler who is a retired American IFBB professional bodybuilder and five-time Arnold Classic winner and the one described as the greatest bodybuilders by Arnold Schwarzenegger says that majority of the people at the gym are utterly misunderstanding the main secret to build muscle mass.
He also said in one of his posts on Generation Iron,
More than 90% of the questions people ask me via email or at the gym is the best weightlifting routine to become strong and huge. The number of sets, reps, drop sets, rest time, super set, etc.
Wheeler gave a very short and good answer that you don’t grow in the gym, you grow at the dinner table. Your training routine does not limit the growth, it’s actually the recovery phase, eating and sleeping routine.
Most of the people who have the desire to get bigger and stronger quite often train hard but the mistake they make is they don’t eat and sleep, which is basically the secret pill to their growth. Wheeler also said, “Individuals often carry a notebook with a record of their rep and set they’ve done during the past couple of years.” What’s missing is the record of their meals. This is where they lose.
Even though working out is important but what you eat is what actually matters. Without proper diet, you’ll never build the lean muscle mass.
Tips From Flex Wheeler
Well, Flex Wheeler didn’t conclude his discussion there but even gave some great tips to fellow gym enthusiasts.
He advises all to lift heavy intensely for 4-5 times a week and no more than 1.5 hours, eat healthy food, lots of it and sleep as much as you can.
Wheeler says, “I’ll just stop there. If a person asks me the question on how to get huge, he has to do follow these tips and he’ll get the results.”
Of course, there are several questions that people tend to ask. Wheeler says that even though people are now well-informed about the sports and have literally read everything, still they want me to confirm their belief, theory, research, or whatever they’ve watched.
For Wheeler, these things don’t matter. Though it is good for you to educate yourself but the simple yet the core point here is to keep a track of your training and diet. There is no magic pill to success.
At the end, Wheeler said, “I’m as bad as anyone about trying to learn all the latest training and nutritional information, however; I have a strong belief that 99% progress comes to these simple rules:
- Lift big and intensely
- Eat healthy
- Sleep tight
So, don’t you waste your time just by spending your day searching the internet on how to get gains or get big, whatsoever.
Simple is that…
Train, eat, sleep REPEAT and kick the bullshit away.
