The MMA Test: Women Train to Become UFC Fighters in 2 Months

Could you take the strain?

The life of a professional mixed martial artist is a brutal one, but more and more women are opening up to the world of combat sports these days—a victory for both genders.

That being said, not everyone is cut out for the career of a fighter, from training several times per day to dieting down in extreme ways to cutting water using methods that push the human biology close to its breaking point.

It ain’t all punches and smiles.

But Jordan Shalhoub and Michelle Khare said “Hell to that” and volunteered to train as a competitor in the Ultimate Fighting Championship would before competing in a head-to-head MMA fight—all in just two months.

The results include muscular development, increased confidence, life fulfillment, blood, sweat, several bucket loads of tears, and more blood.

While weightlifting may be a superior method for people looking to solely build strength and definition, training for a combat sport will upgrade the cardiovascular system like few other crafts, due to its reliance on aerobic capacity and body control.

In the space of 60 days, the heavier of the two participants, Jordan, shed more than 10lbs and roughly three percent body fat. What this doesn’t account for, however, is any new muscle Jordan may have built up over this period.

Michelle, on the other hand, started the MMA process roughly 17lbs lighter than her opponent, and so it’s unsurprising her weight and fat loss was by a smaller margin, although she will still have benefited hugely from a health perspective.

Without mentioning the very convenient difference in lighting and posture Buzzfeed used to emphasize the differences between the before and after photos, there is still a noticeable change in appearance.

Need to shed fat fast? Try becoming an MMA fighter (or at least training like one).
